Project Literacy of Bergen County is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing, supporting, and promoting the expansion of adult literacy in Bergen County.

         Our Mission Statement
 

     

Project Literacy of Greater Bergen County, Inc. is a non-profit organization established to increase the level of public consciousness on the issues of adult literacy, and to serve as a catalyst for literacy iniatives.

Our Vision Statement

 

Because Project Literacy consists of participants from corporations, literacy providers, small businesses, social service agencies, community groups, and the media,

the organization is able to:

  • Serve as a resource to the community on issues of adult literacy
  • Maintain a clearinghouse on literacy information
  • Serve as a community catalyst for new literacy initiatives
  • Develop and maintain community linkages
  • Coordinate the design and implementation of recruitment and referral of groups and individuals in need of information regarding basic skills education
  • Recognize literacy efforts within the greater Bergen County area
  • Provide free tutoring services by trained volunteers to adults in need of basic literacy education

Project Literacy of Bergen County provides hope and opportunity for adults who cannot read, write or speak English.  It oversees a free tutoring program for the people of Bergen County and the surrounding area.  It administers a scholarship program to the disadvantaged in the community who wish to attend literacy classes at the Bergen Community College
