PROJECT LITERACY CHOSEN FOR GRANT BY DOLLAR GENERAL LITERACY FOUNDATION
This year the Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded a grant of $7500 to Project Literacy of Bergen County in Hackensack. Project Literacy was one of four adult literacy programs in New Jersey to receive a grant from the foundation which donates $4.9 million to 327 non-profit organizations in the fight against
illiteracy.  The grant was for continuing support of Project Literacy’s volunteer tutor training program.

"The Dollar General Literacy Foundation is proud to help our neighbors learn to read and improve their education through these grants," said Dollar General CEO Rick Dreiling. "Each grant recipient is doing tremendous work, offering hope to those who want to better their own lives through literacy and education. We are delighted to make the educational dreams of others a reality through our grant programs."

Since its inception, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation of Goodlettsville, Tennessee has awarded grants totaling more than $24.5 million. In addition to cash grants, Dollar General's Learn to Read free literacy referral program has directed more than 50,000 individuals to organizations in their respective communities that help people learn to read.

Project Literacy of Bergen County provides 12 hours of training to its volunteers who work one-to-one with students who need help with reading, writing, English speaking-skills, and preparing for their high-school equivalency tests.

We would like to increase the capacity of our volunteer tutoring program from serving 75 students to serving 150 or more students by the end of 2008. We would also like to increase the performance levels of at least 75% of our students by at least one level. We feel that these goals can be best
